SHATNER! IN THE BLOGOSPHERE! WITH WORDS! | 8:07 pm | 2 February 2006
OK, really, who gives a fuck that a football player has a blog? THIS will make you forget all other blogs ever and bow down before the awesomeness. Or not.
Are you ready for some blogging? | 10:11 am |
Pittsburg gh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has a blog. Oh, Steelers, please win. I know it’s petty, and I should be grateful for the time we had, but I really don’t want to see the ex-girlfriend take the Lombardi Trophy without us.
myspace.com and bandwidth theivery | 8:32 am |
I’d never had a problem with people snarfing images before – using images I’ve posted here on their own pages, but linking to them directly rather than uploading them to their own server. I don’t check my stats too often, and just saw a huge traffic spike from various MySpace accounts. “Wow! I’m popular! I must have fans!” thought I… ha! Hardly. People seem fond of the Eddie Izzard and boob-tube sweater (NSFW) pictures. Too bad, babies, ’cause I just finally got around to adding some juju to my .htaccess file to stop that shit.
Macs aren’t overpriced, duh | 9:32 am | 17 January 2006
From 436 Berea Street:
I am so sick of the constant whining about price, most of it from people who have never owned a Mac. Yes, you may have to spend a little more money when you buy a Mac. So what? You get what you pay for. Why aren’t people complaining about a BMW or Mercedes being more expensive than a comparable Skoda?
Hey, I got my whisper-quiet, 80-gig, very fast Mac Mini for $700… a real bargain, too.
he would have gotten away with it, too… | 8:20 am | 11 January 2006
…if it weren’t for those meddling teenagers at Metafilter! This exciting tale of the MeFi Scooby Gang busting an eBay scammer still developing, after ~200 comments. Stay tuned!

Mr Dynagirl has started podcasting with some friends, and here’s the first Chumpsquad podcast, featuring Dan Cody and Christ Spruck chatting about technology.

Matt Warden’s book is out. Go, Matt!
Lemme hear you say ‘YEAH!’ | 11:04 am |
Hey, I’ve been getting a comment spam flood, and so just installed a SpamKarma plugin – it looks like it was working, but now I’m getting word that legit comments are getting fatal errors. I just unplugged SK – so can you comment? And if so, especially if you’re using WordPress, whatcha use to keep the pill-pushing-casinos at bay?
Tiny (Daily) Dancer | 4:15 pm | 8 December 2005
I get a feeling I should have known about this earlier. Daily Dancer, thank you for sharing your joy.
jacked in again! Suck it, MegaCorp! | 10:45 am | 5 December 2005
One of the things that’s really bummed me out at the gig for GigantoCorp is their insanity lockdown on the computers – it’s bad enough that I don’t have admin rights on my box, but there’s also pretty much no communication with The Big Outside World — our IM is limited to within the building, and don’t even think about IRC or trying to circumvent that.
Well, this weekend Mr Dynagirl set me up with pssh on the Treo, so I’m BitchX’d in to #f2o on irc://f2o.org on my phone. w00+! Mr Dynagirl is truly fucking awesome!

Dear Salon: Please go to the Beauty Parlor | 12:13 pm | 6 October 2005
Salon.com “redesigns” to celebrate its tenth anniversary, and looks older and more tired than ever. Plus, a quick check of the code reveals ninety errors. It’s also slow as molasses. There’s no excuse for that much ugliness.
sticky fingers | 1:17 pm | 30 September 2005
This keyboard (Kensington USB Keyboard-in-a-box) requires so much PUSH on each key that my hands hurt, and I procrastinate working for having to use it. I’m tempted to pour coffee on it, so that it’s truly a Keyboard Emergency, and not something I forget about until I sit down to work here every Friday.

tivo tip, duh | 4:57 pm | 22 August 2005
One thing I’ve been wishing for with TiVo is a way to sort movies by dates — recently released, or 1970s, or whatever. Not exactly what I was looking for, but will certainly work for the new releases, as I slap my forehead repeatedly:
Make a wishlist with keyword (say) 2004 and restrict it to the genre of Movies. Presto: browsing the wishlist gives you all the movies from 2004.

As much as I have loved the fine customer service representatives at U.S. Cellular*, it’s time for us to switch. My cell phone never gets used, because it’s just a phone. I need something to give me e-mail, web, and a camera while I’m at it; there’s no sense in shelling out to park the number and make maybe one call a month. I know I’ll be using the data capabilities much, much more. Unfortunately, U.S. Cellular doesn’t offer web phones – but, oh, joy! I could get a phone from them and use it as a wireless modem for a PDA! Just what I’ve always wanted. Not.
To cap it off: they hadn’t offered electronic payment, but in the last month or two they’ve redesigned their site. IN JULY OF THE YEAR TWO-THOUSAND AND FIVE, I can’t click a few buttons and pay the bill. O!M!F!G! Oh, they do offer electronic funds transfer so that they can ding your bank account every month, if you “Just print out the application form and fax or mail…”
Yikes. And now to begin the process of finding a phone and a service. Cheap Treos, anyone? Do I hold out to see what a Motorola Pebble actually does? When’s that frginn’ iTunes phone come out, anyway, and for how much, and can I send e-mail and read blogs on it? *Sigh.* Maybe this is why I’ve stuck with the 5120 for so long…
The irony is that I’m also gagging for a red one of these…
*I’m serious, they’re always really, really nice!
Still wondering about the post title? Once Upon a Honeymoon, from Bell Labs.
