heaven knows I’m miserable now | 10:19 am | 16 November 2007
I got the new(ish) Morrisey album off iTunes and started listening to it last night. Why was I surprised that it was so depressing? I should know better, duh.

The thing about Morrissey is how poppy and soulful it sounds when he is really depressed. I don’t think about the words when I listen to old Morrissey, because the tunage is so bubbly and hooky. But he’s gotten a lot more mellow in recent years. I’m not sure I could withstand depressed mellow Morrisey. I think I still need the hooky happy depressed Morrisey.
It’s funny how he’s made a career out of being sad.

Avast! The Dreaded Meme-Tag has struck! (Blame the Czelt: followed her link…)
Anyway: the thing I like about Morrissey is the interplay between that depression and the often hilarious way it’s expressed. He can be one of the funniest lyricists out there as well!
