If you can’t stand the heat | 4:36 pm | 18 July 2005
It’s been so bastard-ass hot that we spent much of the weekend huddled indoors, sprawled in front of the air conditioning vents. Cooking was nearly a Sophie’s Choice between turning on the oven and venturing outside as far as the grill; however, the risk of warming the house by even one degree wasn’t an option. Bleh.

Friday night was not ungodly enough to deter dining al fresco, and we tried out grilled pizza from the current issue (July ’05) of Cook’s Illustrated. We were all a little skeptical, but it was fan-fucking-tastic. Two expected friends couldn’t make it, and the rest of us were glad, because that just meant more for all of us. Bonus: The dough doesn’t need to rise overnight (just two hours) so this can also be made as a quasi-last-minute dinner. We’re definitely going to do this again!
