Stornoway neck achieved! | 7:24 am | 1 June 2005

Finally at the top! It was great fun getting to the last row of the back, and then knitting the shoulder straps. It’s been a long, long road — I started this in February 2004 and still have a ways to go with the sleeves. If I’m done by November, I’ll be happy. The sick thing? I’m thinking about making one for myself when I’m done.
The photo above is a detail of the shoulder join, and the linked photo is the whole body. The photos are really a bit crappy, because this navy is so dark.

I am very impressed with your progress! I had given up checking your site out for awhile, but since I have started the Stornoway a couple of times, really want to make it, but don’t like the repeat patterns not matching up and yet not willing to give up.
So thank you for the inspiration.
I think if you made it again for yourself, it would be one sweater you’d wear so often, worth all the labour!
Thank you so much.

Thanks! Esther, don’t give up, and don’t sweat it too much about things not being perfect. You notice a mistake for about five minutes, and the next day, you can’t even find it. One thing I would definitely do on another Stornoway is keep separate row markers – one for the cables and one for the shrub pattern. The shrub is where I have the most mistakes. Also, I think I need smaller needles for another one. Sorry there haven’t been many posts about it, it takes so long to show progess!
