How to win daughters-in-law and influence family | 10:14 am | 23 February 2005

Queen Elizabeth II won’t be attending the wedding of her son; evidently she can’t be arsed to make the 184 steps from the castle to the place of the ceremony. And I thought my grandfather was an ass…

Why, again, does Britain still keep these chumps around? Surely the tourist money they bring in can’t keep up with the cost of their upkeep any more.

Yeah, it’s not as if British Royalty occupies any high ground as far as marriage and divorce are concerned….

Wasn’t that abandoned with… Henry VIII?

Mostly! Remember, rather than divorce, H8 just murdered them. If The Duke of Windsor hadn’t abdicated, they’d have had to deal with Queen Wallis, but since they never had children, the line would have continued as it is now.

And really… as much as the idea of Queen Wallis gives me the willies, in reality they’re just as freaky as she was.

    Wait, wait!

I’m a little hazy on the history. What’s this about Windsor and Wallis?

Also, I recall that death only parted him from four of his wives H8, two of which he had beheaded; two died on their own (supposedly). I believe two were imprisoned (and divorced?). Right?

yeah, apparently camilla asked the queen not to attend the wedding

turns out camilla didn’t want anybody at the wedding prettier than she is

    ;o)

Interesting, Rudy; I hadn’t heard that bit yet. Is she still on your money and stamps? *sigh* That’s just the Canada-envy speaking…
