gone fishin’ | 10:08 am | 12 August 2004

Yesterday I met my Auntie Pat at the Mississippi for one last fishing trip before she returns to Ghana next week. While the only fish we saw were four baby bluegills and this really big muskie, we saw a bald eagle, several brown eagles, and three great blue herons. One of the herons was fishing about ten yards from us, and he caught his own little bluegill. That was neat to see, but led me to wonder what it must be like, the satisfaction of eating something yet having a spinedy, half-alive thing flopping about in one’s stomach. Yow.
