The Merriest Christmas, or: To Hell with Toxic People | 5:55 pm | 3 January 2004

We had one of the nicest Christmases ever! We spent Christmas Eve with Russ’ awesome mom and brother, and with my excellent parents and brother. Christmas Day was with my family and we shared our goose with a dear family friend. The food was wonderful and the company great. Considering this, and how nice Thanksgiving was – conversation flowed from 11:30am – 7pm (with Russ’ mom and brother, my folks, and four family friends) and everyone had a great time, I’m really starting to make peace with feel very glad that some relations have chosen to exile themselves. It’s much, much nicer this way.

Besides, after watching the emotional abuse they heaped on my mother for so many years (not to mention what they pulled at my wedding, which though appalling is really just a continuation/culmination of said abuse directed at my mother), there is no fucking way in hell I would share a meal with them, let alone continue to hold a civil tongue. Let alone hold the gravy in such a fashion as to not pour it in their laps…

Anyway – huzzah for new families, families and friends that love each other and are kind, and huzzah for new traditions apart from toxic fucking assholes.
